About Quilt Works Professional

Your quilt top does not become a finished quilt until the quilting has been done.

For some, this is the hardest part of all to do for a variety of reasons that can include a lack of time, problems with your hands, the quilt top being too large, or just simply quilting being something that you do not really like. This applies to many quilters - they absolutely love making different quilt tops, but when it comes to quilting, it leaves them cold and they prefer to get on with making their next quilt.

That is where Quilt Works comes in - we will take care of that part for you!! We offer a full quilting and binding service that will ensure those quilt tops come out of the cupboard and go onto your beds.

Before you bring your quilt in...

To ensure your quilt top is ready to be quilted, please remember the following preparation points...

Remove excess threads from the front and back of your top & hellip; these look unsightly if caught in the quilting.

If you are providing your own backing and batting please make sure that they are a minimum of 3 inches larger each side (i.e. 6\" overall) than your quilt top. This is really important.

If your backing requires joining, please remember to join across your quilt rather than down, and to remove the selvages. Ring and make an appointment so you can spend time discussing your needs.

If you need your quilt for a specific event – a birthday or an exhibition, remember to allow plenty of time for it to be quilted – especially custom quilting as this takes more time and there may be a lot of other quilts ahead of you.

Quilting Rates

Our rates are worked out on a per square foot basis.

To estimate the cost of your quilt
multiply the size of your quilt, and then divide by 144 to get the square footage. Multiply this by the style of quilting you would like and it will give you an idea of what it will cost for your quilt top.

Example: top measures 72 x 85 which equals 6120 divided by 144 equals 42.5 square feet. 43 multiplied by $3.50 for a simple pantograph your quilt would cost $150.50 for quilting.
NB:This does not include backing, batting, or thread.

Simple Pantograph $3.50 sq. ft.
Fancy Pantograph $4.50 sq. ft.
Custom Quilting $6.00 sq.ft.
Heirloom Quilting $7.50 sq.ft.
Thread charges between $5 and $12 depending on type of thread.
Joining backing $10 per seam

Binding Service
Option 1 includes cutting, sewing, attachment to quilt and hand stitching down.
Option 2 Attaching to quilt and hand stitching down prepared binding.

Both Options cost $15 per hour a standard queen sized quilt would cost approx $60

Minimum All over Quilting Charge $60.00; Minimum for Custom Quilting $100.00

The Choice is Yours

QuiltWorks offers you many different styles and options when it comes to your quilt top. You can choose from one of our many different all over patterns (pantographs), both simple or fancy, or you can decide to use the custom quilting option.

Your Quilt Top will often dictate what type of quilting is called for and this is discussed at your booking appointment. It is always a great idea to give some thought beforehand to how YOU would like your quilt to look when finished.

We can supply all that you need...

Quilt Works offer a full service and can provide you with batting and backing. We stock the beautiful Hobbs Polydown, Matilda’s Own 80/20 Wool/Poly or Cotton/poly, Quilt 85 polyester, and now the environmentally friendly Bamboo/Cotton batting. We enjoy using all of our battings that we stock and can help you choose the right one for your quilt.

We are also happy for you to provide your own batting and backing. Backings are also part of our service, and we carry a lovely range of 100% cotton fabrics that are 2.5m wide. The range of colours is very good and these are very reasonably priced at $18 - $30 per metre. The styles vary as they become available. We also stock 2.3m Quilters Muslin at $18.00 per metre.

We are also able to offer a binding service. If you love the thought of your quilt coming back to you totally finished and ready to go on the bed or give as a special gift, then take advantage of our Finishing Service.
